I have been arguing that Development has failed in many respects. Respectable authors support this point of view. If anything, development has itself caused myriad problems. It has become evident that when President Truman made his famous speech in 1949, the intent was to spread American interests globally, given that the country was economically stable post world war 2 and wanted by every means to shave-off the possibility of communism spreading to the "less developed areas." Africa, South America and Asia were natural places for the development experiment.
In development discuss, a new thinking for social movements as the means to advance change and improvement of human life has become very popular. While the talk of social movements in itself remains problematic, one thing is for sure, the current approaches have not served well, and a new paradigm needs to be found.
The International Forum on African Development (IFAD) is a global movement of Development experts working to seek new paradigms towards change and improvement of human life in Africa. The aim of the think-thank is to provide a forum to discuss Africa's challenges, priorities and solutions taking into account African traditional problem solving methods and also addressing the issues on an issue by issue and case by case basis.
